DEEJAYS STUNG AT STING
Jamworld, Portmore, St Catherine, was brought to life once again by Supreme Promotions, as Sting pulled out thousands of patrons and kept them entertained until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The event dubbed 'Rumours of War' lived up to its promise. While several acts overstayed their time on stage, patrons waited with aching knees to watch the artistes challenge each other in the staged clashes.
But despite the fact that patrons wanted war, the majority of the artistes delivered excellent performances.
At minutes after 12 a.m. there were no clash artistes in sight, instead there was Toya, who attempted to get the crowd on her side by buying them out.
She literally threw money at the audience while performing her song, meanwhile the patrons were scampering for the cash incentives.
The first sign of war came at 12:15 a.m., when Food Kartel went up against Kushenco in a heated food battle, but that would only serve as an appetiser for what would come later.
Flexx came next along with fellow Gulliance artiste Kibaki, and they gave an energetic performance and were applauded by the audience who were hungry to see the big acts.
At 3 a.m. the first of the advertised clashes took place when Specialist walked on stage wearing a suit bearing various war gadgets.
He quickly performed his popular single Street Hustle, before calling out his rival Hurricane, with whom he was slated to battle.
"Deh bwoy ya a walk a call up mi name," Specialist said, then going on to sing a well-received war version of Street Hustle.
lyrical squabble
Hurricane replied by saying that he was going to send back Specialist to sell banana chips, however he was booed thoroughly.
At the end of the lyrical squabble, Specialist was hailed as the winner and Hurricane was showered with more boos in all his efforts to defend himself.
The next clash saw Merciless going up against KipRich, who has been hailed by some as the new and improved Ninja Man.
Dressed in army attire, KipRich lyrically massacred Merciless and left the veteran artiste licking his wounds onstage.
"Laing please send something better, send another artiste, anybody else," he said while making his exit.
At one stage, Merciless just stood in disbelief as members of KipRich's entourage pushed a casket on stage bearing the name 'Merciless'.
Another exciting battle was between Alliance artiste Iyara, and former Gaza artiste Deva Brat.
Iyara entered the stage as the underdog, however the tables quickly turned as the heavy-voiced artiste used clarity and witty lyrics to devour an unsuspecting Deva Brat.
"Deva Brat sleep with lizard," Iyara sang and got a rousing response from the crowd.
Deva Brat tried pulling numerous stunts to win over the crowd, such as bringing out props like two fake guns and aiming them at Iyara.
However, Deva Brat's delivery was too fast and the patrons could not hear his punch lines, unlike Iyara who threw painful blows with every line of his songs.
Iyara was much sharper than Deva Brat. But it was the final gimmick, playing on Deva Brat's former legal issues when he was charged with carnal abuse, that took Jamworld by storm.
Iyara called a woman with a 'baby' in her arms on stage and encouraged the infant to 'speak'. Over the speakers came a baby's voice, complaining that "Deva Brat touch me".
Jamworld erupted.
Deva Brat later shook his head in shock as MC Nuffy led him off stage saying the show must go on.
The Twin of Twins and Tony Matterhorn clash was a huge anti-climax, as both rivals delivered lyrics that were less than impressive.
Twin of Twins entered the stage at 7 a.m. wearing masks and Tony Matterhorn wore army attire.
However their clothing was much better than their lyrics.
Twin of Twins got good response for their first 'diss song' aimed at Matterhorn. He in turn replied with a substandard freestyle and was heavily booed by the disappointed crowd.
stumbled
The Twins now had the opportunity to take the clash but they stumbled on their delivery and gave Tony Matterhorn the opportunity to regroup and win over the patrons.
"Mi ago mek Dancehall Duppy part 4 afta mi dun wid unno ... yu think a now mi clash?" he said.
The seemingly upset Twin of Twins belted out a string of expletives in an attempt to defend their honour, however they were hopeless in an effort to win back their disappointed fans.
Bounty Killer brought down the curtains on a successful staging of Sting and he delivered a well-arranged performance with the Ruff Kutt band.
He, too, wanted a lyrical war with his rival Beenie Man, however despite several attempts, he couldn't get Beenie Man onstage.
"Big up KipRich and Iyara - Alliance members dem - yu si how mi pickney dem bad, dem nuh bad like wi," Bounty said.
There were also good performances from Aidonia with fellow J.O.P members Navino and Deablo, Khago, Teflon and Zamunda who threw freestyle jabs at I-Octane. Popcaan also gave a very good account of himself singing a string of hit singles.
Ex-Gaza member Jah Vinci and Black Ryno also had horns and fireworks going as they delivered their popular singles.
The Rum Fire-sponsored event was incident free and, according to Oral Tracey who was one of the MCs for the night, Sting had returned.
"Laing, look pan di crowd, Sting return," he belted over the microphone.
