Sting promoter says ... The winners were clear
The promoter of Sting, Isaiah Laing, says that the winners of the four staged clashes were miles ahead of their competitors.
Usually after Sting hours are spent among patrons and fans debating the winners of the various clashes. This year, however, Laing says the winners were unexpectedly far ahead of the defeated.
Speaking with The STAR after the event, Laing called KipRich the winner over Merciless and also said that Tony Matterhorn defeated the Twin of Twins, Iyara defeated Deva Brat and Specialist demolished Hurricane.
He said, "The clashes got everybody excited, it was electrifying. Before Sting, I would have thought the clashes would have been very close, but it never worked out to be like that. KipRich was head and shoulders above Merciless, Matterhorn far ahead of the Twins. Iyara over Deva Brat and Specialist over Hurricane."
According to Laing, he expected Twin of Twins to have given Matterhorn more of a fight but, as he said, "Matterhorn was too good for them."
Other noteworthy performances, according to Laing, were the young acts that came on earlier in the night such as Pickney, as well as more established acts such as Khago, Popcaan, I-Wayne, Aidonia who he described as being "off the chain", Teflon, Fantan Mojah, Zamunda, Etana, Ryno and others. "It seemed like every man did shot," Laing added. "It was a much better Sting than last year and the artistes were much better, there was hardly ever a dull moment," he said.
While the patrons were happy with the scheduled clashes, the rumoured clash between Bounty Killer and Beenie Man did not take place. On the day of Sting, rumours were circulating that the two were confirmed to clash after they exchanged lyrical shots at 'Diamond Splash' in Negril on Friday night.
Laing told The STAR what took place at Sting saying, "Beenie never confirmed the clash with me, what happened is that he went on Hitz 92 and said he was going to clash. He called the office and asked for x amount of passes, which he got, and he came there. He almost reached onstage and some of his cronies told him not to go onstage, so I don't know if he got stage fright, but Bounty Killer was in a very mean mode, he was very entertaining, this is the Bounty of old."
Laing is now looking forward to next year's edition. According to the promoter, the attendance this year was better than last year indicating that the show had improved. However, he disclosed that if the event does not get a title sponsor, then there is a chance it will not be taking place for 2012.
