BARBADOS police say they have no idea of the whereabouts of a cop who is accused of raping a Jamaican woman while she was in custody.

He is one of two cops who are accused of brutally raping and sexually assaulting the 27-year-old woman who is serving a 15 month sentence for smuggling ganja into that eastern Caribbean island. They were reportedly aided and abetted by a female officer.

The victim arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados on a Caribbean Airlines flight from Jamaica on Saturday, February 26. She cleared immigration, but was stopped by customs officials who searched her bag and found approximately two kilogrammes of ganja hidden in a secret compartment.

She was strip-searched and taken to the Oistins Police Station where she said officers took a statement from her and denied her the opportunity to make a phone call.

The woman was transferred to the Central Police Station in Bridgetown, where she again gave a statement later that night. She was then placed in a cell where she alleged,she was raped, sexually assaulted and verbally abused by police officers.

Two of the cops have since been charged, a male with sexual assault and a female with aiding and abetting. They will go on trial in September.
